The True Value of the Work We Do
Carol L. Tilley on The True Value of the Work We Do. in School Library Monthly, May/June 2011.
“Few school librarians would consider their crowning professional achievement to be a student’s score on a state assessment exam. School librarians do, however, celebrate those moments when instruction leads students to innovative problem solving. They also celebrate feeling sustained and encouraged when students excitedly share their insights about books and how the school librarian helped them select resources. They celebrate when former students email to say “thanks” for the encouragement and direction. This is the true value of the work done by school librarians, and it is important to find a way to capture it, share it, and continue it.”
